New Darts - Same Old Story

This week at the PDC’s Super Series 6 from Barnsley, both the World Number 1 and 2 were using new darts for the very first time in competitive action and both picked up titles.

To the surprise of nobody, Peter Wright had decided to change his setup again, despite lifting the World Matchplay title just eight days prior.

It is well known in the darts community that Peter Wright being the perfectionist that he is, will always be looking to improve his dart or setup if he believes he can. Sometimes the changes can be drastic with the entire barrel profile changing.

This time the change was a very subtle one. Peter made a very small change to his World Matchplay winning set, playing with a tapered nose design, allowing for better grouping in the treble.

The change is something that only the keenest darts fan would have noticed. However, at the key moment it played its part, helping Peter to score back-to-back 180 and 140 in a deciding leg against Jonny Clayton in the Final.

This excellent scoring enabled Peter to build a big lead in the leg, giving him the advantage he needed to secure victory!

In a slightly more curious case, Gerwyn Price had also changed his to use his new Thunder Special Edition darts.

The reason that this switch came as more of a surprise is that Gerwyn has used the same set of darts since Day 1 of joining the PDC. The same set that won him a World Championship and took him to World Number One.

The Iceman, first used the Thunder Special Editions during the LIVE launch of his new World Champion collection. He quickly got to grips with them, saying, “These feel so comfortable and well balanced as I throw them. I can certainly see myself using these going forward.”

That is precisely what the Iceman did, using them on all three days of Super Series 6. Gezzy got off to a flying start with them by lifting the Players Champions 21 title on Monday!

The Iceman was in imperious form all day, with an average for the day of 104! Gezzy was pushed all the way in the Final to beat Damon Heta 8-7 in a deciding leg!

Both players will be back in action soon as they take part in the Hungarian Darts Open on the Euro Tour!

What darts will they be using then?
